Okay, funny story. My wife, bless her heart, finds this vanity sink top for 50% off, and HAS to get it. Not that it was beautiful but it was originally like $90 but on sale for $45 so we’re saving $45, right? 🙂
I’ll give her some credit, she did measure the vanity we had in the half bath downstairs, and measured this new vanity, and they were the same size…..but…..it didn’t fit.
Here’s what we used to have in there:

Your pretty basic set up. But the hardware was getting old. The countertop is coming apart. The caulk is disappearing. I agree, it needed replaced.
So once I started this project, there was no turning back. The countertop continued to break apart as I tried to remove it. By the time I was done, it could not be put back, even by the most skilled of carpenters.
Imagine my surprise as I go to install the new vanity top and it doesn’t fit. Basically it is desinged for a vanity that is seperate from walls on either side, like this:

Ours was mounted to the wall on the left. Damn. Well shit. Now what?
Not knowing much about this, we ventured off to Lowes and Home Depot looking for wall mounted vanities.
Turns out they don’t just sell those. You need to have a new countertop cut specifically for your space. Which meant we’d need to return the current sink/top purchase, and purchase a sink by itself, and then have a countertop cut specific to our space and sink.
Sounds like a pain in the ass, right?
So we started exploring a whole new vanity, that comes with the vanity itself, and the sink/top. But those were quite a bit more than we were expecting.
At this point I know the $45 we “saved” is now gone. Now we’re looking at hundreds. Granted we took out a loan to fix up the house so the money’s there, but…I’m still trying to keep this as cheap as possible.
After a couple of days of himming and hawwing over which option to go with, we decided to get this model from Home Depot:

Only a couple hundred bucks. Simple. Clean. Easy. Right?
Well every step of this project came with its own issue. Basically I had to learn plumbing, electrical, mudding, and flooring to get this in. Here….just watch the video:
Whew! That was an experience! I’m loving the results tho!
Thanks for following along with me on that journey! Let me know if you’ve got any tips for me concerning any of the issues I ran into, to help me on my next project. Or if you have any questions for me, just let me know. I love to learn and then pass it on!
